All Textbook Topics - Matter and Pressure - Density equation Introduction - The symbol equation for the density=mass/volume equation is ρ=m/V

The symbol equation for the density=mass/volume equation is ρ=m/V

A symbol equation is the same as a word equation except it uses the symbols to represent quantities rather than words.

For the density equation, which is:

density = mass ÷ volume

The symbol version of the equation is:

ρ = m ÷ V

This equation can be written in a number of different formats (note these all represent the same equation):

ρ = m ÷ V

ρ = m / V

and the hand drawn versions:

Previous
To perform calculations using density, mass and volume you can use the equation density=mass/volume
Next
The ρ=m/V equation can be re-arranged to make mass or volume the subject of the formula
